internet marketing

Yesterday, Dawn announced she’d be moving on from Outspoken Media. It was hard to see in print, but Dawn stuck with us through an incredibly exhausting year and earned a spot in this family regardless of where her career takes her. We thank her for everything she brought to Outspoken, all the long hours and the work ethic that never ceased to impress. She’ll be missed.

With Dawn’s departure there were questions raised, especially since her announcement follows on the heels of Rae stepping down as CEO.  Over the past two years Outspoken Media has experienced a tremendous amount of growth. That growth came in many shapes and sizes, and with the hard work and trust of many individuals. It has been exhausting, difficult, scary and, at times, absolutely insane. It’s also been one of the most rewarding experiences of my life to date.

As the company grew on performance reports and ledgers, Lisa and I have grown as individuals. Did we do it without any bumps along the way? No. Did we do it without any help? No. But did we do it with a fire in our bellies to keep Outspoken Media our number one priority no matter how often our significant others, family and friends asked us to please shut the computer down? Yes. Business isn’t always fun, but the challenges make us better professionals and, I would like to think, people.

I am proud of what Outspoken Media has accomplished as a brand, a business and a service provider. It’s our baby and to the answer your questions – yes, we’re here to stay. We may not have the same names as when we began, but like any new business, if we cannot overcome inevitable obstacles gracefully and quickly, we didn’t have much going for us to begin with.

We’ve built something special and we will continue to grow this business in the New Year with the help of our team and clients.  Now also seems like an appropriate time to welcome in two new faces to Outspoken Media. Well, at least new to you. They’ve actually been part of our family for a while now. They’re two women who joined our team and showed us how important team is to business. They complete us and in 2011 will be the other half of Outspoken Media.

Sabre Angelique Sarnataro

Internet Marketing Specialist

Sabre serves as one of our Internet marketing specialists and came to Outspoken with a strong background in traditional marketing. She’s worked in promotions, broadcast advertising and print marketing, also delving into freelance web design/development and social media consulting. She has the core belief that every person should print the definition of “honest” to their mirror, not only to remind them of its varied meanings, but to inject it into their everyday lives. She believes a good marketing approach will always include passion, personality and honesty.

Clients will love her because she attacks their projects with passion, creativity and a unique voice. We love her because she’s a tough Italian, outspoken, and has no shame when it comes to the amount of frosting one requires to assemble a gingerbread house [still a sore subject around the office]. She’s also slowly working to increase Lisa’s pop culture knowledge, which we all really appreciate. Her knowledge, her fire and her spunk make her a perfect complement to Outspoken.

Michelle Lyttle Lowery

Senior Content Manager

After serving time in both the United States Air Force as a cryptologic linguist (no, seriously) and Corporate America, Michelle serendipitously fell into Web writing, and hasn’t looked back since. For more than 20 years, Michelle parlayed her love of language into successful writing and editing pursuits. A self-described word nerd, she loves reading and books, and thinks grammar and etymology are fun. She speaks Spanish and Russian conversationally, and could probably get around Paris and Berlin without too much trouble. Since September 2008, she’s been honing her skills as a Web writer and editor, and learning the art and science of SEO, and Internet marketing.

Clients will love Michelle because her uncompromising personal expectations, honest writing, and versatile style and voice. We love Michelle for her excitement, her desire to dig in and get her hands dirty, and for occasionally sending emails so amazing they make us giggle and/or cry. Michelle currently resides in South Carolina so, sadly, she’s not in the office with Lisa, Sabre and myself. But that doesn’t stop us from bugging her via video Skype chats.

Just like any new company, this past year has been a lesson in smart hiring as we opened up our new Troy, NY office.  However, with the addition of Michelle and Sabre, we’re confident we got it right.

To date we’ve been mostly a virtual shop with Lisa and myself working out of our apartments for the better part of the past two years (wee, no pants Friday!). It worked well when it was just us, but as the team grew we saw the effect that working virtually had on morale. As a result, we’ll only be considering candidates in upstate New York for (most) future positions. Yes, Michelle telecommutes, but she’s an exception due to her level of awesomeness and how well she vibes with the team. There’s something to be said for working in an office together with group coffee runs, late night client deadlines and maps for industry domination in 2011.

With that, we hope you’ll join us in welcoming Michelle and Sabre to the team. We think you’ll agree, they live up to the Outspoken Media legacy.   We also want to thank the community for their support.  The messages Lisa and I have received over the past few weeks have been nothing short of amazing.  Thank you.

Show me a modern political candidate who doesn’t understand television, and I’ll show you a loser.

When TV became the dominant medium for Americans to consume news and entertainment, political candidates could no longer be successful without looking polished in televised debates, appearing on talk shows and spending big on commercials.

Like the television boom of the 1960s, we are standing on the precipice of a big shift in how public figures are perceived and how campaigns are conducted. Our frontier is social media, and its impact on mainstream political culture is coming on fast.

While my colleagues have been making their predictions about what’s on the tech and social media horizon in 2011, there will be no major U.S. elections next year. Here, we’ll be postulating about social media’s impact on the more long-term future of American civics.

1. There Will Be a Tipping Point

While campaigning and marketing share many similarities, the differences mean everything when you’re talking about democracy’s big picture. Brands can sell by hitting a tech savvy demographic of influencers. Elections involve everyone, whether they’re online or not.

If a large bloc of your constituency is made up of 65+ year-old retirees, chances are a Facebookclass="blippr-nobr">Facebook strategy won’t be time well spent. Despite the enthusiasm of the tech crowd and blogosphere, Twitterclass="blippr-nobr">Twitter is exceedingly far from the mainstream, with only 6% of Americans using the service. And while the world consumes YouTubeclass="blippr-nobr">YouTube videos at a mind-bending rate, viral success is still transient and elusive.

While these tools have certainly proven to be effective in rallying support and contributions, we don’t yet live in a world where social media can make or break a political candidate by itself.

That will change, perhaps even by the next major election cycle.

The future of the social media politician is not about wild speculation and technological uncertainties. It has everything to do with when and how deeply social media can be absorbed into mainstream culture. We are on track for a tipping point — a JFK/Nixon TV debate moment — when everyone on the political scene will acknowledge that we can never go back to campaigns without social.

2. New Media Strategists Will Just Be Strategists

I’ve had the opportunity to talk with the new media strategists for a number of senators, congresspeople and political causes. Despite their differences, they all agree that their own jobs will soon be folded into the larger campaign strategy. As many have already foreseen, social media will not require experts for much longer. As we head toward true mainstream adoption, social will be a default and well-understood tool in the belt of any public-facing professional.

We’ve already seen this happening in the private sector with marketing and PR professionals. As many corporate entities lumber to catch up with those on the cutting edge, so too will government officials and the campaigners who seek their offices.

3. We’ll See the Devaluation of Old Media in Politics/>

Print and radio ads are not as valuable as TV. TV will no longer be as valuable as interactive media. For politics, this is especially so, as the arena (at its best, anyway) warrants engagement and discussion.

As media appetites shift, this is an inevitability. In the U.S., we’re already seeing web use catch up with television in terms of weekly hours spent. Political money will simply go where the eyeballs are, and we’re likely to see a big payoff on social creativity when it comes to future campaigns.

4. Whistle Blowing Gets More Efficient, But That’s It

The WikiLeaksclass="blippr-nobr">Wikileaks saga has ignited plenty of discussion about journalism and whistle blowing in the Internet age. But at the end of the day, the mechanics of an information leak are about the same as they’ve always been: Someone from within an organization leaks damaging information, and the media (in whatever form) disseminates it to the public. Generally speaking, WikiLeaks has only acted as a “middle man” for raw information. It’s journalists who are making sense of it and transmitting it to the public with context.

The web only speeds up this process through digitization and universal access. Governments and politicians will feel the impact of leaks sooner, but it’s unlikely the methods of protecting sensitive information will be much changed.

Your Thoughts?

What do you think will be social media’s biggest impact on the political process? How long until we see a winning campaign strategy that is purely social? Let us know your thoughts in the comments.

Making Money Advertising

Even in times of severe budgetary crisis, WMATA still has to advertise itself. And what better way to reverse the public's negative opinion about random bag searches, constant maintenance, annoying talking buses, broken escalators, confusing fare structures and so forth than with some state of the art "guerrilla" marketing! Kytja Weir reports that the agency is going to try and get your attention the same way your local emo band does.

The transit system brought on Williams Whittle, based in Alexandria, earlier this month to help market the agency using traditional advertising but also possibly "guerrilla marketing" and "street teams," said Metro spokesman Reggie Woodruff.

"Williams Whittle will assist us as we continue to explore ways to increase revenue and off-peak ridership and to more effectively promote Metro and the improvements that we are making," he wrote in an e-mail.

That could mean "unconventional marketing" that directly engages potential riders, he explained. He could not provide any examples of what such direct marketing might look like, though.

What, was Evan Hensleigh not available? WMATA will be using about two-thirds of its $1.8 million advertising budget on Williams Whittle's services. For the sake of public transportation, I sure hope that Williams Whittle has some better "unconventional" ideas than those Second Life animations which Metro rolls out every now and then -- based on the company's website, it looks like they've got a ton of experience creating slightly annoying, yet oft-imitated television ads.

I'm exploring the site now. First impressions:

1. Promoted Tweets: "When you promote a Tweet, only the most relevant users see it—put simply, that's users that follow similar accounts to yours." OK - so Twitter has some kind of (proprietary) segmenting algorithm. Does that mean "If I'm promoting tweets about RC Cola, users following Coke and Pepsi will see it, but someone who isn't following either of them won't?" What about someone who's following a celebrity that Coke or Pepsi sponsors? I guess if I were a brand, I'd want something a little more specific than that. On Facebook, I can say, "Only 18-35 year old males who are fans of any NBA team will see ads for my basketball shoes." What's the equivalent on Twitter?

2. Promoted Trends: Yeah, Carri's right about this one *and* there's another hitch. The way this has been described, a trend has to *already* be a Trending Topic before you can promote it. That means the brand has to sit at a console, watching Twitter, or have a script watching the world-wide, local and regional trending topics. When a new trend is "born", the brand has to decide if it's relevant, compose a tweet, then hit the "Promote" button.

I've seen Promoted Trends, so they must either have had a strong clue that it was going to make it into the Trending Topics ahead of time, like a sports event or TV show, or they were camped out on a console. I know the W+K people had a whole control center for the Old Spice campaign, complete with home-brew analytics, creative and legal teams working in real time, and so on. In any event, this seems to me to be a big-brand tool only, in conjunction with mass media and real-time campaign management and lots of data integration.

There are a few other issues with Promoted Trends. Every user can choose to see "World Wide" Trending Topics, or trends from certain cities or regions. If you're promoting a Boston restaurant, I'd think you'd only want to show the Promoted button to people who were viewing Boston trending topics. Another issue is spammers. When the list of trending topics updates, there are spambots that latch on to multiple topics - if I viewed "Boston Celtics" during a basketball game, sure, I'd see a Promoted Tweet for the restaurant at the top, but right after than I'd see a bunch of garbage. Twitter needs to filter the spam out of Trending Topics before Promoted Trends will be effective. I think it's an easy piece of code to write - just ignore any tweet that matches more than one trending topic.

3. Promoted Accounts: As far as I'm concerned, I don't know that I'd buy a promoted account if Twitter was filtering who saw it. I don't think Twitter's "Who To Follow" algorithms are that good yet. For example, I followed a math teacher in the UK recently who tweeted something interesting. For *days* after that, Twitter's Who To Follow list was mostly math teachers in the UK! Either they all follow each other or Twitter is looking at the profiles. If I bought a Promoted Account I'd want to either know how many people would see it and how they were selected, or I'd just want everyone to see it. And If I only pay per follower and not per view, I think I'd insist on knowing how they were segmented - I wouldn't want to have to spend my own resources qualifying followers.

4. Analytics: I'm really glad Twitter is providing those only for advertisers, because they're going to be tweaking the algorithms for months, and that costs money. Again, though, you really need to be a big brand before you can dedicate a real-time Twitter team to a campaign.

Bottom line: even with all the issues, I think it's going to be successful for campaigns like the Old Spice campaign, major league sports, mass market movies and television shows. It's working for Conan O' Brian, it worked for Old Spice, it probably worked for Best Buy and some of the movies that used it.

But for smaller businesses, with, say, a single person at a dashboard for a local business in one of the cities where Twitter captures Trending Topics, it's going to be a bit like day trading. Eventually, you'll learn how to do it, how to follow trends, promote them, compose a tweet stream that "resonates", etc., but there won't be much "science" in it. Spammers will figure out how to game it and "black hat Twitter resonance optimizers" will appear on the scene as if by magic.

tracking personal finances

Recently I wrote that the deficit-cutting projects and media campaigns sponsored by billionaire Pete Peterson all "focus on the same narrow band of options" that "reflect far-right positions," but nevertheless are usually described in the media as "moderate" and "bipartisan."

I received a response from an official at the Peterson Foundation. Out of courtesy, I will not name the person or quote their email in full. The official said that my statement was "patently untrue" and a "mischaracterization." Some of their other statements can be found below, along with my observations about them. My reply to the Foundation then follows:

Foundation: "We strongly believe that Social Security must be preserved and protected. One of the goals of the Foundation is to ensure that this vital program is strong, solvent and secure for future generations, particularly America's most vulnerable populations ... "

Peterson-funded projects have consistently given the impression that Social Security is contributing to the deficit (which it is prohibited by law from doing); that its long-term shortfall must be met primarily by benefit cuts, and only secondarily by revenues; and that it is acceptable to increase tax payments for the wealthy so gradually that it will take forty years for the payroll tax to cover the same percentage of wealth it covered more than twenty years ago.

To be fair, Peterson-funded proposals have recently included modest benefit increases for the lowest-income recipients.

Foundation: "Mr. Peterson's personal views include the need to increase benefits for the poorest Americans receiving Social Security and reduce benefits for the well-off. He has suggested that progressive benefit reforms such as progressive wage indexing, affluence testing and increasing the payroll tax cap be considered."

"Reducing benefits for the well-off" sounds reasonable - until you realize that this billionaire's definition of the "well off" includes people who earned an average of $43,000 per year during their work life. A 20-year-old who earned that average through their work life would see a 17% cut in benefits from one Peterson-backed proposal, and would see a 30% cut if they earned an average of $69,000. Under the Simpson-Bowles plan, even workers who made as little as $20,000 average would see benefit cuts starting in 2040.

As for the truly wealthy who receive Social Security benefits, the problem is that there aren't enough of them to make a difference. Remember, retirement benefits only go up to a certain amount. It sounds reasonable to say that billionaires shouldn't receive a Social Security check (although they've paid for the benefit, too). But when you calculate the number of wealthy people that would be excluded under any reasonable plan, there aren't that many of them. When you add in all the time and expense of identifying them and tracking them (How would that be done? Cross-reference IRS returns and check their bank and real estate holdings?), studies have concluded you'd spend more to find them that you would save by cutting their benefits.

Foundation: "Mr. Peterson and the Foundation have also repeatedly stated that we must consider all viable solutions from across the political spectrum if we hope to meaningfully address our fiscal challenges. As part of this process, the Foundation believes that it will be imperative that wealthier Americans contribute significantly to help stabilize our nation's finances, secure the social safety net and provide critically needed resources for education, research & development and infrastructure."

Nevertheless, a recent Peterson-backed proposal (Rivlin/Domenici) would cut both Social Security benefits and Medicare spending, which would disproportionately harm seniors who are not wealthy. The same plan would also sharply lower the top marginal tax rate, from 35% to 27%, making up the difference with a highly regressive sales tax of 6.5% and percentage limits for tax deductions that would disproportionately benefit the wealthy.

That is a "right-wing" plan by any measure. It's certainly not a plan in which "wealthier Americans contribute significantly to help stabilize our nation's finances."

My response to the Foundation follows:

____________________

Dear X:

Despite your suggestion that my characterization of Mr. Peterson's views is misleading, it seems to me that the consistent themes behind every organization, study, and communications campaign Mr. Peterson has funded have been:

  • An overemphasis on balancing the budget in a time of economic crisis, when stimulus is urgently needed;

  • A failure to note the critical role the banking sector has played in creating today's deficits;

  • The mistaken notion that the country cannot continue to provide the current level of Social Security benefits;

  • A refusal to propose lifting the payroll tax cap to 100%, as polls show the public (including most Republicans) would prefer;

  • A refusal to consider returning to the marginal tax rates which were applied to high incomes in recent decades;

  • Proposals which would delay the process of returning the payroll to its 1980's-era level, when it covered 90% of all income as intended by the Greenspan Commission. (No liberal, that Alan Greenspan!) Some proposals funded by Mr. Peterson would delay this re-stabilization by as much as a half a century;

  • Social Security proposals that give greater weight to benefit cuts than to tax increases;

  • Communication campaigns designed to fuel the misconception that Social Security contributes to the general deficit; and,

  • A desire to convince the public that levels of debt considered manageable in other nations pose a grave threat here.

I agree that long-term deficits are a grave and even critical problem. But these long-term debts are fueled almost exclusively by the truly staggering increases in health care costs that have been projected. Yet the projects funded by Mr. Peterson are notable for their lack of emphasis on health management programs that could contain these costs, as has been accomplished in other developed nations.

I respect Mr. Peterson's accomplishments, which have given him the ability to promote his opinions in many different ways. But these opinions, however legitimate, are normally considered right-wing. The attempt to characterize these conservative views as "bipartisan" has been very successful from a marketing point of view, but has no basis in fact as far as I can see.

Thank you for writing, and best regards -

Richard Eskow

PS: I saw that Mr. Peterson signed the Millionaire's Pledge. That's admirable, and I thank him for it.

And that is a big reason why we’re all (bloggers, artists, labels) in the fucked up situation we’re in now. You know who has some power to help though? Artists. You guys need to step up and show some nuts man. You guys talk real tough in your raps and you say you support these sites when you have an album dropping, but then I don’t see you running up on your label’s VP of Legal demanding that the threats stop. If rap blogs helped you sell records, or launched your career, or got your name back out there, then guess what? It’s time to man the fuck up and put some pressure on those labels that you claim work for you. Stand up for something before there’s nothing left to stand up for.

    ^^

This rant would mean a lot more if there wasn’t a complex media toolbar at the bottom of the page and all types of ads surrounding it.

When your talking about “counting your money” you make for aggregating content from the same artists you are claiming to “help” ( and seriously, are you really helping Sean Combs at this point? or Wale? or Donnis? FOH) while simulanetously showing disdain for artists who don’t wanna play by your rules such as Wasalu or Curtis, how can you be suprised at the results?

You aren’t a tastemaker anymore– if you were, you wouldn’t post half the bullshit you post.

You want the pageviews, the ad-clicks, etc, and the more you have hoared out your internet space, the more you have brought on your own situation you find yourself in now.

You wanted to be part of the industry so bad you have now become tied into the politics– and the labels have been playing the game MUCH longer than you have, with a lot more resources.

The smart thing to do would be to PROVE your power (such as it is) to said labels and stop posting ALL of their shit– NOTHING from Atlantic, Interscope, etc.

Focus on artists you actually like and wish to promote– if you actually feel that you have the ability to create an artist and sustain their buzz, PROVE IT.

    But you won’t.

Because now you need the money those established artist brings via their page views.

IE used to be less secure than Firefox. I’ve heard it’s on par now with its security, but after installing AdBlock on FF and Chrome, I hate whenever I have to use IE for something. I also think Firefox and Chrome are faster, and their interfaces are easier to use for me. Those last couple things are just my opinion, though.

Firefox and Chrome are also easy to customize – you can put iTunes controls in your browser, block all ads (I don’t see anything on NR except the Complex bar), etc.

Whats the most important thing to you?

I mean, you can have both, right?

    ^^

    Thats the key though.

    Why complain then?

The fuck this fat nigga got to be mad over? Telling artists to “take control”… For What?

Niggas know you still gonna download their song links to hulkshare and post them diligently.

And if he is saying, “Yea, I just wanna make my money,” then why is he ranting about what he would happen if he stopped posting their shit?

Its like I said– his survival is intertwined with these labels and their artists– he eats because they provide the REASON to come to his site, so what the fuck is his problem?

If you really feel some type of way, then say “No thanks” and deal with whatever consequences that arise.

Or just shut up, smoke your weed, and keep paying for loosie cigs and 50 cent bags of Doritos from the Corner Bodega with your ad money.

    Simple as that.

Oh yea…and then to download it for free of course. But if I can’t get it here…it’s not hard to google the song and get off of Hulkshare or some other file sharing service…for now anyways.

But in my college years I used to hit the garment district and buy fake Jordans and AF1′s to flip by the box…I know around this time every year is when the Feds crack down on illegal goods…I guess they decided to crackdown on music sharing this year too.

Just like they figured out a way of becoming profitable with MP3 w/ I tunes and all that. They need to react with a practice that helps them earn revenue in this blogosphere. Sounds like this has been stewing for a while. The entire media industry is full of this fuckery.

One of the biggest manifestation has been Viacom suing YouTube and then the allegations that Viacom employees were uploading their promo content to YouTube.

And just last week we learned EMI posts songs on rapidshare and yet it’s the same industry that’s trying to sue them.

Sony arguably suffered the worst loss. Sony the music label / movie studio basically sabotaged Sony the technology company. At a time when MP3 players were just starting out, Sony hit us left, right, and center with their bullshit proprietary file formats. Then came the music cd rootkit nonsense where they were basically planting viruses on our computers. In the end, Apple basically came out of nowhere and stole their mojo. And I don’t feel the least bit sorry for them.

It’s like the media industry doesn’t have a clue. Type in your favorite artists/album into Google and add “rapidshare”, “usershare”, “sendspace”, “megaupload” or what ever and you’ve got a download link for what you’re looking for. Everytime one of these goes down, more just keep popping up.

Basically, the world will keep turning. If it ain’t on nahright, it’ll be some other blog. So I don’t blame eskay for competing. Plus the division between major / indie is so blurred these days it’s silly…have your favourite “major” label artists are on Koch.

Killing OnSmash was probably one of the stupidest things I ever seen. But whatever, life goes on.

The funny thing is that embargoes basically don’t exist on blogs. Usually the consequence for violating one is that your site gets blackballed from future exclusives. But industry’s got no choice but to come back to the same blogs because of how much reach they have lol.

I’ve blogged and spoken at length about what this site is about to numerous people over the years. just because some of you guys pop up now and then and read a Jihad comment doesn’t mean I have to sit here and explain myself. ask yourself this question: why do you come here if you don’t know what this site is about or what we support?

so Blue Flame Agency sent a video to world premier but it was a raw copyright material that if uploaded to Youtube or any other video site the audio would have gotten silenced or removed altogether…

    you don’t like the song…

your not getting compensation to post it…

You don’t have a video player nor do you want to sent it to ONSMASH to upload it fearing a C&D notice or even a shutdown…

why bother then w/ the labels & agencies that make you go through these obstacles?

they’ll still pay you for an 2 week album advertisement wallpaper on the front of the site. right?

if the major artist & label want to you to premier a music video require that its already been uploaded to their generic youtube or whatever video player instead of a raw video file..

    problem solved no?

I Think Its Easy… Nah Right Is The Go To For (Most) Of Our Favorite Rappers New Shit… Its That Simple…

If Jay Or Nas Or Em Or Wayne Or *Insert Hot Rapper At The Time* Has A Premier, More Than Likely Youll Get It Here 1st… Along With A Couple Up And Comers… Rap Radar And DDOT And Them Do The Same But For Some Reason Its A Lil Bit More…On Point Here… Easier To Shift Thru… The C Section Is >>>>>

Thats What I Came To Nahright For… Along With The Clever Commentary And News Quips And All That…

And It Could Have Stayed THAT Simple

But When Bans Of Certain Artists Are Implemented And Grandstanding Is Threw Into The Mix, Then People Start To Question Motives….

    Hence Whats Going On Now

they’ve controlled the record industry for a long time…for the better part of 10 yrs or so they’ve had very little control w/ their pockets getting lighter and lighter…with youtube, blogs, shutting down torrent & p2p sites they’re trying to regain control again…

Funny thing is he stays coming back for the same reason labels stay coming back – to generate buzz. People on here looking for new music so what better place than to promote your own? Jihad could easily post his music on other blogs but ain’t no one checking for it.

At the end of the day if it ain’t nah right, it’s some other blog / website. But since it just ain’t the same elsewhere, we just keep coming back nah right.

We continue to debate back and forth yet we’ll still be back. And NahRight keeps ticking until the Feds are called in. And the audience fragments and tries to flock to whatever is next.

The industry basically wants something like radio where they have more control over the content. They can try to start their own thing but it’ll just flop cause they won’t have the audience. So they stay mad cause they gotta deal with all these sites with the audience they’re after.

On the real, Hulu’s the closest I’ve seen to media companies understanding the Internet. But of course, it’s only in the US so they stay losing.

it’s the lack of extensions, for most people

and for developers, IE8 still fails the latest Acid test (although IE9 should pass): http://acid3.acidtests.org/

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Acid3

“Acid3 test is a web test page which can be found at acid3.acidtests.org from the Web Standards Project that checks the performance of a web browser regarding the issue of following certain selected elements from web standards, especially relating to the Document Object Model (DOM) and JavaScript.

If the test is successful, the results of the Acid3 test will display a gradually increasing percentage counter with colored rectangles in the background. The number of subtests passed will indicate the percentage that will be displayed on the screen.”

The machine of creating content need to move with the technology and not against it. Hip-hop music is a 21st century musical discipline, which is constantly on the cusp of technology. We are witnessing the fall of what we used to remember of the music industry. Eventually only a hand full of artist will be on majors, while the rest will be independent. It work make fiscal sense to do it any other way.

I've been working in the IT/Internet field since the pre-Google era, so it's been a number of years now. It's been a rough ride of ups and downs, but a great one. Being constantly on the internet, I've always wanted to do something extra, apart from my full time job.

I've tried a million different things and had truckloads of ideas on how to make money online. Forums this, blog that, advert here and advert there, but they all failed. I've read gazillions of documentations, watched hours and hours of presentations about how to make money online — how easy it is to work from home and make over $10,000 a month. Really? Well you want my opinion? Screw all that and do it your own way because YOU LIKE WHAT YOU ARE DOING.

Look at the history of most companies, giant corporations of today, especially the online ones such as Google, Twitter, Facebook and many others. They all started as a hobby, as a project, and never specifically to make money out of the idea. All the founders of the above mentioned companies, believed so much in their idea, that they dedicated their life to building it. It is not a matter of luck that they are who they are today, but it is sheer determination and good ideas. Money is a secondary thing; it's the result of what you've done. I never used to believe this but now I do believe it, been there, done that.

As I specified above, I've tried a million types of online ideas and website, but they all failed because I specifically wanted to make extra money. Thought there was only one thing that I really liked and loved, and never gave it a shot, music! It was always my dream to have the time to discover new bands, to have all their original CDs and albums, and if possible get in touch with them.
